It’s the week before the start of the 2019 Grand Masters Program®, and final preparations are underway here at GRS. We thought it would be a great time to look back at the last Grand Masters event, which was held 2 years ago.
In 2017, the program saw a great group of artisans studying under Grand Master Engraver Alain Lovenberg and Grand Master Stone Setter Alexander Sidorov. Students came from a wide variety of backgrounds and experience, and interestingly, a full third of the group were under the age of 35.
Because the course spans two weeks, there are always obstacles to overcome, whether it means missing work (some worked overtime before the program) or missing your family (one student said he used Facetime to talk with his kids every evening). These students had passion to be part of the class and were able to work things out so they could attend.
“It didn’t matter what problems came up,” Isaac Walters explained, “because I was going, no matter what. That mindset eliminated issues. They were just part of getting to where I needed to be.”
Be sure to check out articles and social media over the next few weeks to see work from the 2019 Grand Masters Program!
